"Different Seasons" is a collection of four novellas by Stephen King, first published in 1982. Unlike much of King's earlier work, this collection leans more towards drama than horror, showcasing his versatility as a writer.

The collection includes:

  1. "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption": This novella tells the story of Andy Dufresne, a banker unjustly imprisoned for the murder of his wife and her lover. Over the years, he forms a friendship with fellow inmate Red and devises a meticulous plan to escape the confines of Shawshank Prison. This story was adapted into the acclaimed film "The Shawshank Redemption" in 1994.

  2. "Apt Pupil": High school student Todd Bowden discovers that his neighbor, Arthur Denker, is actually Kurt Dussander, a former Nazi war criminal in hiding. Instead of turning him in, Todd becomes fascinated by Dussander's past, leading to a dark and twisted relationship. This novella was adapted into a film of the same name in 1998.

  3. "The Body": Set in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine, this coming-of-age tale follows four young boys—Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern—as they embark on a journey to find the body of a missing boy rumored to be lying in the woods. Their adventure becomes a profound exploration of friendship, youth, and the loss of innocence. This story was adapted into the film "Stand by Me" in 1986.

  4. "The Breathing Method": In a mysterious gentlemen's club in Manhattan, members gather to share unusual tales. One evening, Dr. Emlyn McCarron recounts the story of a determined pregnant woman who is committed to giving birth despite facing severe challenges, highlighting themes of perseverance and the supernatural. This is the only novella in the collection that has not been adapted into a film.

"Different Seasons" has been praised for its compelling storytelling and character development. The collection showcases King's ability to delve into the human experience, exploring themes of hope, corruption, innocence, and resilience. The success of the film adaptations further attests to the enduring impact of these narratives.
